The Skills Development team began the period with renewed energy, visiting schools such as Aravinda High School, Bhabesh Chandra High School, and the AC College Hostel. These outreach efforts encouraged more students to participate in the program, while regular classes continued smoothly.
Within the Foundation Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) initiative, close attention was given to monitoring progress. Teachers submitted detailed reports on attendance, participation, and student learning. Meetings with local councillors and field surveys explored the possibility of opening new learning centres. Several aspiring teachers applied to join the program, reflecting a growing interest in contributing to community education. A motivational session led by senior faculty further inspired both students and teachers, reinforcing the vision of inclusive learning.
Strengthening Teaching and Recording Experiences
Classes continued as usual, while the program focused on recruiting new teachers. After careful interviews, three candidates were selected and began visiting communities to better understand local needs.
At the same time, interviews with students and parents were documented, creating a collection of stories that helps improve the program. Recording these accounts provided useful insights into local challenges, ensuring teaching methods remained relevant and effective.
Learning Through Role Play and Field Visits
An innovative role-play activity, “Voices from the Garden,” gave students a closer look at life in the tea industry. Students took on the roles of tea pluckers, estate managers, union leaders, tourists, historians, and children of workers. Acting out these roles helped them understand daily life, history, and the challenges faced in the plantations.
Teachers also conducted surveys and collected stories from different areas. These case studies strengthened the program’s understanding of the community. By combining classroom learning with fieldwork, students experienced education in a practical and meaningful way.
